Winter Fence Evaluation

Well, this winter season in Oklahoma has been rather a strange one. Extremely cold tempatures for a couple of days down into the teens then jumping back up into the 70s. With the temps reaching mid 70s so far, this is a great time to walk your fence and take an evaluation of what needs to be done or repaired this upcomming spring. What to look for

On a warm day, walk your fence property and look for loose fence pickets. Are there nails that have come loose holding the pickets? Are they poking out? You might need to replace a handful of pickets or possibly refasten them. Walk the fence and physically shake the fence to see if any of the posts are loose or broken. Look for visual signs of rot or decay and aging. Post repairs are most common after the winter season heading into spring. Do rabbits burrow holes between yards under the fence? Do you see a buildup of leaves or debris in the corner of your yard? You might have a drainage issue. Do your dogs jump against the fence trying to chase squirrels or bark at the neighbors dogs. This might show a spot of weakness that needs to be addressed.
